Wisconsin Badgers Football Recruitment: On-Road Coaches and Transfer Updates

Recruitment is the lifeblood of any great college track team, but keeping track of it as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try to condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (sometimes more) post. It will include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as player news the Badgers are still continuing. Let’s get down to business!

Coaches on the track

  • The Wisconsin Badgers football coaching staff has been on the recruiting trail since the end of the season. They’ve been all over Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Jersey, Texas, Louisiana… so yeah, the coaching staff covers the whole country. It is interesting to see what other schools are trying to make inroads into the state. Syracuse made an effort to enter Wisconsin recently, Illinois has stepped up its efforts in the state since Bret Bielema took over, and the same could be said for Kansas since Lance Leipold took over. It looks like Notre Dame will also be a fixture in the state going forward, which will only make things harder for UW.

Lakeville, Minnesota has recently been a hot recruiting ground for the football team and the men’s basketball team. You also see similar teams here with Nebraska and Iowa State in the mix.

Historically, Wisconsin has been lucky to recruit players from New Jersey, and cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat was recently in South Jersey at Pennsauken High School.

Thomas Paasch is a big offensive lineman in Green Bay who has been on the UW radar for quite some time. They haven’t responded yet, but it’s still a good idea to check these kids out in the state since it’s such a quick trip.

Jerry Kaminski is a 2023 Sun Prairie QB that the Badgers reviewed. It has no reported offers yet but, again, local kids are easy to check out and they surely appreciate it.

DJ Lagway is an intriguing player. He is a 2024 QB from Willis, Texas and already has offers from Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and others. Some heavy hitters are already involved, but if he’s looking to leave the area, it’s good that Wisconsin eventually throws his hat in the ring.

For the millionth time, Bobby April traveled to Louisiana to visit the 4 star LB Tackett Curtis. This time he brought defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard with him. Wisconsin recruits this kid more than anyone I can remember and it would be a really impressive job by April if Curtis picks the Badgers.

2023 5-star RB Richard Young is a player the Badgers have been on since they signed teammate, and current Wisconsin ILB, Jake Chaney two years ago. Unfortunately, he seems to have played on the running back’s “commit to Wisconsin” level, but it’s certainly interesting to see him wearing a Badgers jersey in practice. Maybe Chaney and his dad who is Lehigh’s trainer can do some magic???

Transfer updates

  • New transfer cornerback Cedrick Dort wrote a long post about leaving the UK and heading to Wisconsin. He seems extremely aware of his emotions and how his actions affect others and I think he could be a valuable addition in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

Transfer UCLA CB Jay Shaw is also in Madison ahead of the new semester. The weather is…considerably different in Wisconsin than in Southern California.

I’ll have another recruiting post this week, maybe later Tuesday if I get there, breaking down the flurry of offers that have recently been put out by the football team.
