It’s time to start training! the Blue Cross Wide Street Race returns this fall.
The 2021 Blue Cross Broad Street Run will take place on Sunday October 10. This is the first time that the 10-miler, which normally takes place in May, has been run in person during the fall.
“We are delighted to host the first Philly road race in the city this fall”, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell said.
The 2020 race took place virtually for the first time due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic that sidelined in-person group events.
Each year, 40,000 runners complete the 10-mile walk along Broad Street from North Philadelphia to the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia.
“As we celebrate our 25th anniversary of sponsoring the iconic Blue Cross Broad Street Run, we look forward to a successful and safe event,” said Gregory E. Deavens, President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross.
Registration opens at 12:01 am on July 15th.
All runners who participated in the 2020 virtual race are guaranteed a spot in the 2021 race with a 20% discount on the $ 57 race fee, the organizers said. These 2020 runners must complete their registration before the end of the day on July 29.
There will be a limited lottery for all other runners if there are spots left, race organizers said.
