Heartland DSC, one of 13 DSC Chapter Partners, is proud of its mission to bring young people outside of Nebraska and Iowa.
The group is committed to giving children the opportunity to hunt and fish, while ensuring that families incur absolutely no cost for doing so. As part of their mission statement: We realize that if hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities are to remain a viable part of our society, it will be the young who will preserve them in the future.
The group makes a conscious effort to include all children outdoors, welcoming children with reduced mobility, fatal illnesses or disabilities. In 2019, Heartland DSC purchased an Action Trackchair, an all-terrain wheelchair, so that all children who want to go out can do so. This action wheelchair is loaned by the group to children or adults in Nebraska, Iowa and the country, further bridging the gap between different conservation organizations and strengthening its mission.
In 2020, Heartland DSC gifted Cade, a young Nebraska wheelchair user, his very own Action Trackchair. After being the first person to use the Chapter chair on a successful elk hunt in New Mexico, the Chapter saw Cade’s passion for the outdoors and wanted to make a difference in his life and give him the gift. the freedom to go outside. In just four months, the Heartland Chapter managed to raise $ 18,000 for Cade to have his own chair.
Fishing clinics, hunter safety lessons, hands-on wildlife encounters, hunting and fishing opportunities, it’s all about kids for Heartland DSC.
