Portland Trail Blazers: Exploring Anfernee Simons’ Trades

The Portland Trail Blazers haven’t done anything lately, but stress their need for a major overhaul. With their loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, the Blazers have lost five straight games and eight of their last nine. This latest loss came despite the return of Damian Lillard and a change in the starting XI. Obviously, interim general manager Joe Cronin will have to pull out a few creative trades to save this season and Anfernee Simons could present the Blazers with their best chance of landing another star.

Anyone who has followed the Blazers closely this season knows how impactful Anfernee Simons has been – a bright spot in the midst of a turbulent one-season black hole. That being said, with the state the team is in right now, the only player who should be marked as untouchable is a certain Damian Lillard. “

It would sting to cut the bait on Ant so quickly, just as her development is finally starting to pay off. Simons ’emergence as a potential future star, however, makes him one of the Blazers’ most valuable business assets.

Portland Trail Blazers should consider trading Anfernee Simons

Anfernee Simons has had a major breakthrough this season; he went from being a valuable bench shooter last season to being a bonus sixth man and is quickly becoming a future All-Star.

Simons is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason, which means Portland will have the ability to match any contract he orders. Ant’s game so far warrants a significant salary – a salary the Blazers may have to think twice about, given they already have over $ 93 million committed to the guard post for 2022 – 2023 according to spotrac.

Even if CJ McCollum is moved for a striker or a big one, that still leaves over $ 60 million paid to Dame and Norman Powell. Simons will probably land at least $ 18 million a year. Would the Portland Trail Blazers be willing to shell out over $ 18 million for a sixth man and nearly $ 80 million for three guards?

Otherwise, it leaves them with two choices if they move CJ for a non-keeper. They can trade Norm or Ant. Powell is the obvious fit next to Dame, thanks to his defensive prowess and ability to cut. He also cannot be traded until March 2022, after the trade deadline, as Portland used his bird rights to re-sign him.

With Damian Lillard’s championship window closing quickly, Cronin and the Trail Blazers leaders must at least consider moving Simons to the right package.
