After Saturday’s scrum, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron addressed several topics. One of them is the running back situation involving Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery Jr.
“Tyrion and John have been from time to time. We need some consistency between the two. And we didn’t really understand everything. – Orgeron on his two attacking backs
The running game for the Tigers in 2020 was nowhere near the level many expected. It was a two-headed attack by a pair of highly touted sophomores last season.
John Emery Jr was the second running back in the 2019 recruiting class and a five-star prospect. Last year he ran the ball 75 times with a five-yard clip per attempt. He finished with 451 total yards in scrum with three touchdowns. All three came to the ground.
Most of its production came against Vanderbilt and South Carolina. In those two games, Emery racked up 191 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He added 21 receiving yards against the Commodores. Against Alabama, he ran seven times for 79 yards and his last rushing touchdown of the season. He would not play against Ole Miss in the season finale.
Next we watch Tyrion Davis-Price
