Glenn Gawdin opened the scoring with a power play goal at 3:02 of the first period. His shot from the circle deflected traffic ahead and passed Olle Eriksson Ek for Gawdin’s fourth goal of the season.
Defenseman Connor Mackey, who led all skaters with three points in last night’s win, collected an assist on the game’s opening goal.
Moments before the goal, Dustin Wolf denied Bryce Kindopp in a shorthanded rush. The Gulls forward crossed the net and attempted to lift a backhand to the back of the net, but the Wolf refused the opportunity.
Wolf is starting his second straight game against San Diego. The rookie keeper continued his excellent game last night, stopping 23 of 24 shots for his eighth win of the season.
Entering tonight, Wolf is second in the American Hockey League in SV% (0.934), tied for second in wins (8) and third in cumulative average (2.07). It has not yet suffered a loss of regulation.
Gulls defenseman Nikolas Brouillard collected an assist in the 4-1 loss to the Heat last night, collecting points in nine of his last 11 games (3-10 = 13). He has led AHL defenders in assists (10) and points (13) since November 1.
Former Gull Andy Welinksi brings a streak of five assists (0-6 = 6) in tonight’s game.
