Katie Britt announced today that she will run for the seat of the United States Senate which will be vacated by Senator Richard Shelby after next year.
Britt, a native of Enterprise, stepped down as president of the Business Council of Alabama to take the seat Shelby has held since 1986. She had filed documents indicating she would run last week, but failed to do so. announces that this morning.
Britt becomes the third candidate to run for the Republican nomination in the May 24, 2022 primary, joining Congressman Mo Brooks of Huntsville and business owner Lynda Blanchard of Montgomery.
Britt worked as Chief of Staff for Shelby before taking the leadership role at BCA in 2019.
“I believe in Alabama and the promise of the American Dream we grew up with – the American Dream in which hard work is rocket fuel; the American dream that allowed me to build a career, raise a family and now announce my candidacy for the United States Senate, ”said Britt. “But when I look at what’s going on in Joe Biden’s Washington, I don’t recognize our nation. Our conservative Christian values are under attack and opportunity gives way to law. Over the past few months, I have spent a lot of time praying for America. And now, I’m stepping up and putting everything on the line. It’s time to stand up for our children and our children’s children – and keep the American Dream for them. “
“I will work hard every day to win the vote of all Alabamians because I believe I will best represent our values and deliver results for our state in the Senate. I will put Alabama first and never apologize for it, championing pro-job policies that increase opportunities for hard-working families in every corner of our state. Because we don’t just need a senator from Alabama, we need a senator from Alabama.
Britt lives in Montgomery with her husband, Wesley, and their two children, Bennett and Ridgeway. Wesley was an All-SEC offensive lineman at the University of Alabama and played for the New England Patriots. The Britt family attend First United Methodist Church.
