A Londoner has shared a hilarious clip of ‘Euston Races’ as he struggles to get a seat on his train. Marlon shared the video on TikTok and it quickly racked up views, having gained 1.3 million so far.
In the video, captioned ‘It’s not necessary’, Marlon says to the camera ‘it’s going to be a race, I’m going to win’ while waiting for the 9pm Avanti West Coast train to Manchester. The camera pans around the crowd waiting for the platform to be announced and zooms in on a person wearing heels as Marlon writes ‘good luck running in those’.
“Wait for it,” he wrote before filming the crowd running towards their platform. “The platform would be on the opposite side from where I’m standing,” he says, pointing to the chaotic scenes of people running towards Euston’s platform.

And in the comments, people had their own horror stories about the station to share. ‘I lost a whole Nando’s to take away at the Euston races,’ one person said. “I only had the handles of the bag by the time I reached my seat.”
Another person wrote: ‘Listen I quit after a particularly hectic Euston dash – it was brutal I swear the driver was looking for the defibrillator when he saw me.’ And a third chimed in: “Listen, when you see everyone running, you don’t ask… YOU RUN!”
And on Reddit, people shared their own experiences of the station. One person said: ‘As a Londoner who lives in Manchester I know this all too well’ and another wrote: ‘I saw this happen a few weeks ago skipped it because I booked 1st class tickets.
@Sauntered to my train. It was overbooked, then they declassified 1st class cars (F*** you, Avanti). I had to stand for almost 2.5 hours. I had a seat at one point but left it for an older gentleman. Someone in Euston just wants to play Squid Game with travellers.”
Another person recalled ‘cutting it close but there was a huge queue for the escalators, I sprinted down the steps to get on the train as it was leaving thinking I ‘was going to die’. Another remarked that “those who can’t run are the ones who need a seat the most”.
But several people had a great suggestion to avoid the rush altogether: “Just use the real-time trains and it’ll get you the platform long before it’s announced,” one person said, and another added, “Can vouch for trains in real time!In four of the years of use I think I have only been disappointed once when a train was taken out of service at the last minute and they announced a separate platform for a different train. Otherwise excellent.
