High Country Running: Chase Your Personal Goals in the Flagstaff Running Series | Local

NEIL WEINTRAUB Special for the Daily Sun

As in-person racing rebounds strongly, I’m thrilled to announce that registration for the 18th Annual Flagstaff Running Series is open!

Thanks to the sponsorship of Loven Contracting Inc., we will once again be able to offer the value package at the same price we have had for over a decade. The price for the 2022 series is the same for the 5 km or 10 km/half-marathon package.

The five-race package is just $150 until May 14, rising to $175 thereafter; the student pass for 18 and under is $100, increasing to $125; and the child dash package is $50. Closing of registrations on June 14.

The flexibility means that if your training warrants a change in event distance for any or all races, you simply need to contact each race director through their registration page.

Some individual races may have virtual options, but if you sign up for the Series package this year, you must attend the races in person.

This year, the Series package includes:

  • July 4: Team Run Flagstaff Downtown Mile and Kid’s Dash
  • August 6: Machine Solutions Soldiers Trail Run 5K/10K/Kid’s Dash
  • August 13: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff/5K/Kid’s Dash Half Marathon
  • October 2: Team Run Flagstaff Sunnyside Up 5K/Kid’s Dash

Even though we’ve strayed from the series leaderboard scoring, each individual race offers their published categories, rewards, and swag. Once again, thanks to Pizzicletta, if you participate in at least four of the five races, you will win a Pizzicletta pizza.

Although you can sign up for races individually, signing up for the package early is great value, especially if you plan to race at least four of the five races. Basically, you get each ride for $30 ($35 after May 14). Considering that the regular listing fee ranges between $35 and $70, it’s not hard to see the intrinsic value of signing up for the series.

Sponsoring the series for a second year in a row, runner and President of Loven Contracting, Jon Hansen, said, “This series is a great way to see our friends from Flagstaff and ride the loveliest parts of the community. It’s great to see everyone pursuing their personal goals through all five events. My family loves participating in Kid’s Dash events – they are fun and we are happy to support the next generation of Flagstaff runners and healthy habits! »

Over the years, Flagstaff’s list of elite runners who have crossed the series starting line reads like an A-list of celebrities, including Olympians Rachel Schneider and Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, Team Run Flagstaff and l I-Fit coach Leah Rosenfeld, ultramarathoners the extraordinaire Robert Krar and Ian and Emily Torrence, elite marathoners Nicholas Hilton, Nicholas Arciniaga and Craig Hunt and five-time NCAA national champion coach Michael Smith.

For one-stop registration for all five races and for full details, search for Flagstaff Run Series on RunSignUp.com. We hope to line up with you on June 18!

Neil Weintraub co-founded the Flagstaff Summer Series in 2005 and has been running it on a voluntary basis ever since, with invaluable help from Vince Sherry and Gail Hughes of Run Flagstaff.

Are you excited for the series? Tell us why! Send your story to Editor-in-Chief Julie Hammonds ([email protected]).
