Events organized to help people move during the holidays – The Stanly News & Press

Three local running events are planned to help burn calories during the upcoming holiday season.

The Turkey Trot 4.2 Mile Run-Walk is back for its 19th year. Step out for this annual Stanly County tradition, where families and friends come together to start the day in the calorie deficit column.

Turkey Trot clothing will be available for purchase online or on the day of the event. Monetary donations will be accepted for Christian ministry in the Stanly community. This holiday tradition begins at 7 am Thursday at the YMCA Park at 427 N. First St., Albemarle.

Registration on race day begins at 6 a.m. This is a free race for the community.

The Locust #Elfie 5K Run / Walk is a fast, flat route through downtown Locust and the surrounding neighborhood.

Prizes will be awarded for the best Elfie dress.

Excite Bikes will lead the way during the race.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to TRIBE, an after-school program for Stanly County teens.

The Santa Streaker 2-Mile-A-Day challenge is also planned.

Run, walk or run / walk at least three kilometers per day every day from November 21 to December 31. At the end of each week there will be a draw for those who continue the streak. More prices will be based on the number of participants.

For more information on registering for these three races, visit or call Vac & Dash at 704-983-3274.
