Canadian government requires ArriveCan app for Detroit marathon runners

If you plan to run the Detroit Free Press Marathon on October 16, you will need to download the ArriveCan app and follow Canada’s COVID protocols or you will be forced to drop out of the race.

Although the marathon begins and ends in Detroit, all participants cross the Ambassador Bridge to Windsor, Ontario to run a small portion of the race along the river, then return to Detroit via a tunnel under the river Detroit.

An email was sent to all race participants on September 8, saying: “We have been advised by the Canadian government that ALL international race participants will be required to use ArriveCan as part of their participation in all events Detriot Free Press Marathon. .

“This procedure is mandatory to participate in the Detriot Free Press Marathon and failure to follow this procedure could result in a ban from entering Canada and a DNF.”

Runners were also warned of another way they could be turned away at the border: Canada’s current COVID isolation period.

“Canada has a 10-day isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19, which means that if you test positive for COVID-19 anytime after October 5, you are not allowed to enter Canada on race day,” the email reads. .

Runners participating in the International Marathon and Half Marathon will need to carry three things during the race: a passport, a digital or hard copy of your proof of vaccinations, and a digital or hard copy of your ArriveCan receipt (including the eight-digit code receipt reference code). Runners can have their hands full.

The Detriot Free Press Marathon has been part of the North American racing calendar since the late 1970s. The race is a USATF-certified course and is a popular running destination for many Canadians looking to qualify for the marathon. from Boston.
