Best outdoor cookware for your next adventure

Having a nice kitchen set outside can make a big difference when it comes to enjoying the comforts of home on your adventure.

It can be as simple as a single pot to boil water for a freeze-dried meal and coffee, or it can be a bit sturdier for an entire setup.

I did both. I was a minimalist with just a pot and burner and also carried a full set of pots and pans. It really varies and there are a lot of options to choose from depending on the type of adventure you are going to have.

In this article I will only talk about cookware and in another article I will talk about the best cooking appliances like grills, propane burners, etc.

Here are the best cookware sets for your next outdoor adventure:

1. Stanley Adventure Camp Kitchen Set

Stanley Adventure Camp Kitchen Set

Stanley Camp Set

The Stanley Adventure kitchen set is a classic within the community, and for good reason.

It’s reasonably priced, made from stainless steel (so you know it’s durable and can even be used on charcoal or near a fire) and it’s compact.

It has two nested mugs inside and a locking lid to keep it safe inside when not in use. It can be stored virtually anywhere inside a vehicle or bag.

Stanley enjoys a good reputation within the outdoor community for its quality products and it is just one of the best and most loved. I highly recommend it.

Advantages/Compact, comes with two cups, made of stainless steel

The inconvenients/Since it is stainless steel, it is not as light as aluminum

Final result/Great for any adventure

2.16 piece camping cookware set

16 piece camping cookware set

Compact and lightweight cookware

It looks like a lot of things, but everything tucks away nicely and it’s quite light.

This set comes with:

  • Jar, with lid
  • Pan
  • Mini frying pan and storage box for frying pan
  • 2 bowls
  • 2 tbsp
  • wooden spoon
  • folding knife, spoon, fork and steel spoon
  • cleaning sponge
  • nylon bag to carry everything

It is made of aluminum alloy which makes it extremely light. Everything fits between the pot lid and the pot, making it compact and easy to transport.

I will say that even though it comes with a mini stove there is no room for a mini propane canister inside so that is a downside.

Otherwise, this is a fantastic set that gives you everything you need for any kind of alfresco dining.

Advantages/Lightweight, compact, lots of cookware

The inconvenients/No space for propane tank

Final result/Great set to have for two people or even a family

3. Outdoor camping stove

Outdoor camping stove

Simple cookware

This is a simple cookware set. It has the top and bottom pieces which can each be used individually for cooking / boiling water.

The handles fold down for easy handling of the pot and each handle is rubber coated to prevent burns to your hands.

It also comes with a mini pan that can be placed inside the pots for portable access. There is room in there to also place a mini propane canister, so that’s a big plus.

It also comes with a mesh bag to carry everything.

This is a simple yet practical cookware set for basic cooking and water needs.

Advantages/Simple, light, compact cookware

The inconvenients/The mesh bag is not of the highest quality

Final result/Ideal for most outdoor adventures

4. ZUZU Babe cookware and camping stove

ZUZU Babe cookware and camping stove

Unique cookware

This is such a unique cookware. Even though I said I wasn’t going to mention any type of actual cooking appliance, this is a complete system that comes together so I couldn’t help but mention it here.

It is made of stainless steel and can therefore be used over the fire. Which is good because the stove you see there uses little twigs and small branches to create a fire.

You place the pan and tap it to cook on the heat. This is unique because the pan actually fits inside the pan, then the pan is the lid and it seals to be a compact setup.

No need to carry propane, just find twigs or other small branches to start a fire. Excellent setup!

Advantages/Compact, stainless steel, uses fire to cook

The inconvenients/Won’t be great for places with bans on burning

Final result/Great setup for those looking for fire cookware

5. Jetboil Genesis Base Camp

Jetboil Genesis Base Camp

Jetboil Genesis Base Camp

I love the Jetboil brand, they are durable, reliable and they just work!

This is an all-in-one setup. The stove actually folds up and is placed inside a large pot. The saucepan serves as a cover and then they are all placed inside a bag for easy transport.

These have 10,000 BTU propane burners! They will be cooking your food or boiling water in no time!

I will say this is a pretty chunky setup so maybe not the most ideal for backpacking, but it could work for tent camping, overlanding, or car camping.

This uses the 5 # propane tanks instead of the smaller ones.

Advantages/Efficient, lots of cooking space

The inconvenients/Bulky, will have to carry a 5 # propane cartridge

Final result/Ideal for lots of adventures

6. MSR Quick 2 System Cooking Kit

MSR Quick 2 System Cooking Kit

MSR Quick 2 System Cooking Kit

MSR is another well-known outdoor company. This is a compact aluminum alloy system that weighs only 1.12 lbs!

It includes a small pot and a large pot. It also comes with a few soup plates and cups. They all nest in each other.

You will need a small propane canister and a propane stove, which will not really fit inside.

Otherwise, this is a super light and compact stellar setup, perfect for just about any adventure.

Advantages/Compact, lightweight, comes with cups and plates

The inconvenients/Propane and stove do not fit inside

Final result/Great for just about any adventure
