Gus Mattammal, a Republican from the coast, has also announced his intention to run for the seat. Mattammal said he hopes to improve access to education, health care and businesses in the district.

Beach, a Democrat, said she would make an official announcement next week.

Mullin, a Democrat from southern San Francisco, said he was thrilled and humbled to make the announcement.
âOver the past 14 years, I have worked hard to bring positive change to our community by delivering real results to families on the peninsula. This is why I am honored to begin our campaign with the support of over 30 elected officials from across the district, âMullin said in a press release.
Canepa, the chairman of the San Mateo County Supervisory Board, made his official announcement on Saturday.
âI am running for Congress because the values ââof San Mateo County can be an example to the people of DC. and disabled during the pandemic, âhe said in a press release.
Speier, who has served seven terms, announced last week that she was stepping down to spend more time with her family and work on creating a new foundation to help nonprofits on the peninsula.
San Mateo council member Diane Papan also announced her intention to run for the District 22 Assembly seat currently held by Mullin, whose term is expected to end in 2024 but whose district configuration could change with the drafting of new maps.
