Gus Mattammal, a Republican from the coast, has also announced his intention to run for the seat. Mattammal said he hopes to improve access to education, health care and businesses in the district.

“I would like to thank MP Speier for having served the inhabitants of the 14th arrondissement over the past 13 years. Working in Congress is certainly not easy in these difficult times, ”he said in a press release.

Beach, a Democrat, said she would make an official announcement next week.

“I am ready to fight for environmental protection, immigrant rights, early childhood education, mental health, reproductive freedom, higher wages and a more just and collaborative economy. Hope you join me, ”she said in a social media post.

Mullin, a Democrat from southern San Francisco, said he was thrilled and humbled to make the announcement.

“Over the past 14 years, I have worked hard to bring positive change to our community by delivering real results to families on the peninsula. This is why I am honored to begin our campaign with the support of over 30 elected officials from across the district, ”Mullin said in a press release.

Canepa, the chairman of the San Mateo County Supervisory Board, made his official announcement on Saturday.

“I am running for Congress because the values ​​of San Mateo County can be an example to the people of DC. and disabled during the pandemic, ”he said in a press release.

Speier, who has served seven terms, announced last week that she was stepping down to spend more time with her family and work on creating a new foundation to help nonprofits on the peninsula.

San Mateo council member Diane Papan also announced her intention to run for the District 22 Assembly seat currently held by Mullin, whose term is expected to end in 2024 but whose district configuration could change with the drafting of new maps.

“I grew up here in San Mateo County, I raise my family here and I love the communities I serve. I stand in the House to ensure that every Californian and their family have access to quality health care, mental health services, home ownership, a well-paying job and good schools. “Papan said in a press release.
