CROOKSTON, Minnesota August 29, 2022 – We invite Crookston and surrounding communities to join us for the 2nd Annual Community e-Race Stigma 5k Walk/Run on Saturday, September 17, 2022. The free event will begin in Crookston Highschool at 10 a.m. New this year, we are adding a 5K run option. Participants will receive a goody bag and there will be food trucks on site.

“We will be hosting a mental health expo inside the school so people can grab resources and talk to local agencies about services in the Crookston area,” said Shannon Abrahamson, event coordinator, NW8 AMHI Coordinator and Suicide Prevention Lead for the HOPE Coalition. “We plan to have food trucks on site, so even if you can’t participate in the walk or run, you can still come out to connect, have lunch with us, and help erase the stigma around suicide. “

Several groups have partnered to organize this event, including Polk County Social Services, Polk County Public Health, Crookston Public Schools, HOPE Coalition, Minnesota Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Alluma. Many other local agencies plan to attend and provide resources on the day of the event.

“We know that connections and human connections are essential to healthy communities and suicide prevention. We want everyone to know how to get help when life seems too much,” says Polk County Public Health Director Sarah Reese. “We want family members and friends who support someone struggling with suicidal thoughts to have the resources and tools to keep their loved ones safe. By participating in this event, we are letting our friends and neighbors know that they are not alone.
